DNA Patent Database Sample Searches

• Basic Search Screen
• In the Search Query box, type "Hunkapiller" (without the quotes) and click the Search button. This will retrieve all patents that contain the word Hunkapiller.
• To search for all DNA-based patents issued in 2007, do NOT enter any text in the Search Query box. Simply select 2007 from the Issue/Publication Date Range limiter and click the Search button.
• Advanced Search Screen
• In the Title box, type "polymorphism+" (without the quotes) and in the Inventor box, type "Venter" (without the quotes) and click the Search button. This will retrieve all patents that contain all forms of the word polymorphism that list Venter as the inventor.
• Boolean Search Screen
• In the Search Query box, type "hiv[ti] and vaccin+[ab]" (without the quotes) and click the Search button. This will retrieve all patents that have HIV in the title and all forms of the word vaccin in the abstract.
• In the Search Query box, type "(dna) and gene[aclm]" (without the quotes) and click the Search button. This will retrieve all patents that have DNA anywhere in the patent and limit the search to those that contain gene in the claims section.

U.S. Published Applications

• Basic Search Screen
• In the Search Query box, type "ubiquitin ligase" (with the quotes to retrieve the exact phrase) and click the Search button. This will retrieve all patents that have the exact phrase ubiquitin ligase anywhere in the patent.
• To search for all DNA-based applications published in 2007, do NOT enter any text in the Search Query box. Simply select 2007 from the Issue/Publication Date Range limiter and click the Search button.
• Advanced Search Screen
• In the Title box, type "therap+ breast cancer" (without the quotes) and click the Search button. This will retrieve all patents that have all forms of the word therap AND breast AND cancer in the title.
• Boolean Search Screen
• In the Search Query box, type "amgen[as] and vaccin+[ab]" (without the quotes) and click the Search button. This will retrieve all patents that have amgen in the "Assignee Name, City, State, or Country" field and all forms of the word vaccin in the abstract.
